CONCUSSION/
TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY
"I have learned to use the word "impossible" with great caution and I hope you guys take that attitude about your lives."
-Von Braun
WHAT IS A CONCUSSION?
A concussion is a type of traumatic brain injury (TBI) caused by a bump, blow, or jolt to the head or by a hit to the body that causes the head and brain to move rapidly back and forth. This sudden movement can cause the brain to jostle around as well as twist within the skull. This leads to torsional sheering forces that can create chemical changes in the brain, stretching and damaging neuronal pathways

WHY THE CURRENT APPROACH FAILS?
Concussion is a very complex injury that frankly is not entirely understood. There is a lack of consensus among healthcare providers on how best to diagnose and manage concussion. What this leads to variations in treatment approaches and a lack of consistent guidelines for patients. Also concussion symptoms can range from insomnia to fainting episodes and everything in between so patients may not always have a firm grasp on what provider to go see to best manage their symptoms.
